While

Labor Relations:
In
2009, contract negotiations are pending in Locals 818, MPA
and Fire.

Drug and Alcohol Testing:
The
City of New Britain continues to maintain the federal DOT drug and
alcohol testing program. Approximately 120 individuals who have
Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) and who are in safety-sensitive
positions are enrolled in this program.
Sexual Harrassment Training:
The
City of New Britain continues its commitment to sexual harassment
prevention by offering training opportunities to all new supervisors.
In addition, the Fire and Police Departments have on-going, internal
training programs.
Safety:
The
Personnel department has an active role in the safety committee, which
is mandated by state workers compensation regulations. The committee is
composed of one-half management and one-half union members. Current
Union members are Wayne Gleifert, Dean Sasso, Judi Bernacki and Dave
Zajac. Management members are Kenneth Malinowski,
and Jack Pieper. In addition, the City of New Britain's risk
management consultant, H.D. Segur company, assigns Gordon Stewart as a
resource person to the committee.
A
violence in the work place prevention policy was implemented in FY98/99.

Other Matters:
The
personnel department continues to provide support services to boards
and commissions on matters pertaining to interviewing techniques,
hiring guidelines, and problem resolution. The department is the
liaison between the Employee Assistance Program counselors and
employees.
The
