Mayor Timothy T. Stewart, Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Richard Lorch, and Veteran's Commission Chairman Raymond Lavoie announced today that the Volunteers from the United States Army Field Band will be playing a concert at Trinity on Main in New Britain on Friday, March 6th beginning at 7:00 PM. The Volunteers is the United States Army's premier touring show band. This talented and entertaining group highlight an impressive array of songs from patriotic and rhythm and blues to rock'n roll and pop.
"The mission of the United States Army Field Band is to carry into the grassroots of our country the story of our magnificent Army," explained tour coordinator Sergeant First Class Michelle Laska. "In performances across America and throughout the world, the men and woman of this organization take great pride in reflecting the excellence of all our nation's soldiers."
The Volunteers is a component of the United States Army Field Band from Washington D.C. and are known as the musical Ambassadors of the Army. The internationally acclaimed Field Band travels for thousands of miles each year presenting a variety of music to enthusiastic audiences across the United States and abroad.
This will be the first time that The Volunteers will play in New Britain and the Parks and Recreation Department along with Trinity on Main are excited to have the opportunity to host this special event. "We have been fortunate to see a lot of great acts in New Britain over the years, but this concert promises to be a very exciting performance by a group that has toured this great country for over 27 years now," said Parks and Recreation Director Bill DeMaio.
Since its inception in 1981, the Volunteers has entertained audiences in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Belgium, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Performances have included Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the Indianapolis 500, and various state fairs and festivals throughout the country.
Tickets for the show are free of charge and are available by either calling the New Britain Parks and Recreation Department at 860-826-3360 or by coming in the office at 27 West Main Street, Room 302 Monday Friday from 8:15 to 3:45 PM. Tickets are also available by calling Trinity on Main at 860-229-2072. There will be a limit of two tickets per caller.
