MANGAN LEAGUE TRYOUTS & PITCH, HIT AND RUN
Mayor Timothy T. Stewart, Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Richard Lorch and Vice Chairman Paul A. Shaker Sr. announced today that the New Britain Parks and Recreation Department has scheduled baseball draft tryouts for the Larry Mangan League and J.C. Courant Prep division League to be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Diamond 1 Stanley Quarter Park. Mangan League consists of six teams with Saturday and weekday practices through the month of May and games being played Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights from Monday, June 2nd to the middle of August. Practices and games are primarily played at either Stanley Quarter Park or Pulaski Middle School.
All new participants between the ages of 13-15 should report to Stanley Quarter by 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 26th. All players must register with the Parks and Recreation Department, City Hall, Room 302 by Friday, April 25, 2007. Registrations will be taken before the tryout date at Stanley Quarter Park starting at 12:30 PM. The fee is $40. Returning players do not need to tryout but registration and payment is required by the beginning of the season.
Following Mangan League tryouts the New Britain Parks and Recreation Department and New Britain PAL Baseball will be hosting a Pitch, Hit, and Run Contest at Stanley Quarter Park from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. All boys and girls interested in competing between the ages of 7-14 are invited to attend. Registrations will be accepted in the Parks and Recreation office by Friday, April 25th or on April 26th at Stanley Quarter Park beginning at 3:00 PM. There will be winners in the boys and girls age divisions of 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14. All winners will be eligible to advance to the Sectional Competition (time, date, and location TBD). As a special attraction that day the New Britain Rock Cats and their mascot Rocky will be offering participants an opportunity to win tickets to an upcoming Rock Cats game.
The New Britain Parks and Recreation Department accepts registrations on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations are accepted in the Parks and Recreation office Monday Friday 8:15 a.m.- 3:45 p.m , or by mail at City Hall, 27 West Main Street Room 302.
