How To Obtain A Civil Union License
You may make an application for a civil union license in either your town of residence or the town where the union will take place. If you choose to apply in New Britain and plan to use the license in another town, you will need to provide documentation with a New Britain address.
FOR THE APPLICATION YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING:
- Current photo identification of each party, such as a driver's license, state issued non-drivers I.D. or passport.
- Knowledge of personal facts and the anticipated date, place of union and who will perform the ceremony.
- After completion of the application the Town Clerk will issue the license. The fee for the license is $30.00.
- The civil union must take place not more than sixty-five days after the date of application.
- You will need to present the license to the person performing the union. The officiator will sign and return the license to the town where the civil union occurred , after the ceremony.
- Certified copies of the license may be obtained from the town of occurrence or the town of residence after it has been received for record. The fee for a certified copy is $10.00.

IMPORTANT
- The Civil Union license will only be valid for use in the town notated at time of application.
- The license is only valid for 65 days from the date of application.
- Applicants must be over 18 years of age or an emancipated minor.
Applicants under 16 years of age must have written consent of parent or guardian and the Judge of Probate.
