Mayor Stewart Announces Appointment of William Gagliardi As New Chief Of Police

MAYOR STEWART ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF WILLIAM GAGLIARDI AS NEW CHIEF OF POLICE
New Britain Mayor Timothy Stewart today announced that he will recommend
that the Common Council approve the appointment of Acting Police Chief
William Gagliardi as the new Chief of Police.
Commenting on the appointment Mayor Stewart said today, "I am pleased to
announce that, following an extensive and thorough search, I am recommending
that the Common Council approve the appointment of William Gagliardi to serve
as the next Chief of Police for the City of New Britain.
"Bill Gagliardi has been an important part of our City's Police Department since
he was first hired as a police officer in 1971. Over the years, he has risen steadily through the ranks having served as a Detective, Youth Bureau Supervisor, Lieutenant of Administration, Police Lieutenant, Police Captain and Deputy
Chief of Police.
"Equally important, Chief Gagliardi has been involved in our community
throughout his life serving as a Youth Services Commissioner, Chairman
of the Mayor's Drug Task Force, on the Board of Directors of the Sheldon
Child Guidance Clinic, the Police Athletic League and various other professional, civic and social organizations."
Continuing Mayor Stewart said, "Bill did a fine job during the time that he served as the Acting Chief of Police and I am confident that he will continue to do
an excellent job as our next Chief of Police. I am certain that he will continue to serve the residents of New Britain with the same dedication and commitment that have been the hallmark of his career with the New Britain Police Department."
Chief Gagliardi is a lifelong resident of New Britain and attended local public schools. He is also a graduate of CCSU with a B.A. Degree with a major in psychology and a minor in Spanish.
