Mayor Stewart Announces Start of On Call Program for Non-Burnable Trash Pickup
June 8, 2006
Heralding it as better, more organized way to deal with non-burnable trash, New Britain Mayor Tim Stewart today announced the start of the City's new "On-Call Non-Burnable Program.
"I am pleased to announce the start of New Britain's new On-Call program for disposing of non-burnable trash," Stewart said today. "For many years, the annual non-burnable trash pickup has become a logistical nightmare as our streets became smothered in mountains of trash sitting on our curbsides for up to two weeks. That is why I proposed a year ago that we move to an on-call program to allow residents one free pickup per year and to be enable them to schedule additional pickups throughout the year for a reasonable fee."
Continuing Stewart said, "This new system for disposing of non-burnable trash will reduce the City's costs significantly while maintaining a semblance of order and neatness that has been missing in past years. I urge all New Britain residents living in homes containing 1-6 units to take advantage of this new on-call plan to get rid of all the non-burnable trash they need to dispose of."
Stewart noted that an informational flyer will be mailed to all New Britain residents in the coming week. This flyer will explain how the on-call system works and provide a list of the items that may be placed at the curb for pickup.
Residents will be allowed to place up to five items from the list at the curb for the one-time free annual pickup. For additional collections throughout the year, there is a fee of $50 for five more items.
